About the Competition:
Our Malolo Island Resortwear Design Competition aims to celebrate the beauty of leisure and luxury through fashion. We are inviting designers from all corners of Fiji and the United States to unleash their creativity and create a resort-wear piece that captures the essence of Malolo Island. Designers must submit one resort-wear piece that represents the essence of Malolo Island Resort – a tropical paradise, relaxed luxury, and captivating beauty. Whether your designs embody the tranquility of a private beachside retreat or the sophistication of a Fiji island resort, we want to see your vision come to life.

How to Get Involved:
Participating in our Resortwear Design Challenge is as easy as indulging in a cool breeze on a tropical beach. All you have to do is submit 1 completed resort-wear look for the Runway Show before the 31st of August. The top 20 designs will be featured on the runway. Simply stay tuned for our official announcement, where we’ll provide you with all the details you need to join the competition. Keep your creative gears turning, as you’ll be asked to submit your resort-wear designs that reflect your unique aesthetic and interpretation of resort luxury.

In a thrilling collision of culture, craftsmanship, and couture, the fashion spotlight is set to shine on the illustrious Cowell Theater, come September 2, 2023. This 437-seat gem of a venue, nestled within San Francisco’s artistic heart, is poised to host an eclectic runway show that redefines traditional artistry with contemporary flair.
With panoramic views of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge and a reputation for hosting a diverse array of performances, conferences, and cinematic presentations, the Cowell Theater provides a backdrop that seamlessly marries aesthetics and functionality. The allure of this space, no doubt, will be further intensified by the fashion show that is Fiji Runway.
The runway show will display an array of collections that traverse the sartorial spectrum – from breezy resort wear to edgy streetwear, enchanting Bollywood-inspired ensembles, and even meticulously handcrafted traditional attire crafted from the Masi fabric. Masi is a handprinted mulberry bark cloth, lovingly curated by Fiji artisans, is steeped in tradition, and stands as a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the region.
The theme of the evening, “Spring/Summer 2024,” harmonizes perfectly with Fiji’s temperate climate and vibrant surroundings. The call for a “Resort Luxe” dress code further sets the tone with attendees expected to mirror the elegance and charm of the showcased collections.
Navigating the logistics of this fashion gathering is a breeze, thanks to the ample parking facility adjacent to the theater. At a mere $3 per hour, guests can arrive with ease and indulge in a seamless fashion immersion.
The pièce de résistance, however, is the pricing structure for the event. Fiji Runway has masterfully ensured accessibility without compromising on quality. Tickets are priced at $45 for prime seats in rows A-K, $35 for those in rows L-S, and a special rate of $25 for children under the age of 9.

It felt like we were a part of this amazing work of art, that carefully blended nature’s essence into each piece. As we worked together with the staff of Handcrafted Island Essentials Boutique, we thought deeply about what captures the spirit of spring/summer while staying true to the essence of Fiji. This fusion resulted in a collection that not only resonates with next year’s color predictions but also reflects the unique beauty of our island nation. Visitors flock to Fiji for its serene landscapes and vibrant culture, and we aimed to echo that allure in the collection. With excitement building, we can’t wait to display Sonam’s fashion illustration work on the runway. This collection promises to redefine style while embracing the heart and soul of Fiji.
