Please note, 5 favourite, not favourite 5… that would be impossible for me to choose. So I just chose 5 garments/ensembles from my wardrobe based on how I was feeling at the time.
At the time of broadcast it was Fashion Revolution Week so I asked, do you care about who made your clothes? Even before a disaster, I did. PEOPLE make our clothes, that’s why I look after everything, regardless of what or where it was purchased.
Shown here are vintage suits by Vicky Mar (purple), Mia Bugeja (red cord), and Country Road (ecru linen suit), plus a sublime scarlet red 80s dress by Merivale. It’s SO of the times, structured drape, detailed focal points, slinky but not clingy.
Not modelled, a 90s dress by Sussan, the latter had a fab campaign in the 80s; “this goes with this goes with this goes with this” AND I know the jingle singer’s daughter!
When I originally posted the reel of just this dress on IG and YT, I used the 1981 Duran Duran song “Girls on Film”, which was about how badly the industry that profits off the models treated them. The band members went out with models, saw and heard the truth. Wrote a song, made a pre MTV video that got banned.
Beauty is coveted and loved and hated and scorned. People like punishing Women, especially the biologically beautiful ones. Now everyone wants to be “beautiful” for the attention or have as a badge. Not understanding that beauty is a responsibility and is fundamentally, a synopsis of an interesting story. That’s another story. Literally. Somewhere in the magazine.
