'Duality' by AKIRA / MBFWA Resort 17

“A perpetual favourite with good reason. Akira Isogawa is considered an artist foremost.
It is artistic license that connects this collection because it’s not cohesive. It’s not scattered, just artistically haphazard. The bits of red like splashes of blood from a dripping… paintbrush.
This piece, reminiscent of that floral print on silk sack that a lot of Pacific designers do, is housed in a Powerhouse collection. I get it, I wouldn’t want to give one of my best pieces over to a museum. I was underwhelmed by it when I saw it live on a professional model.
I liked many pieces, understood their all-gender appeal because I am a Woman and I would wear many of these pieces worn by the male models. I didn’t think any one piece was spectacular, it was the painfully nonchalant, dripping with Japanese cool styling that made it work.”
