Braidwood
Braidwood, NSW, Australia.
Images and impressions from Jan 2018.

Quaint, picturesque, soothing, imminently Instagrammable etc.
it’s not a tourist town, it’s town a of out of towners, carving out their treechange. They work hard to make Braidwood a beautiful life not just a beautiful town.
It’s nice white-Australia on the Lands of Traditional Owners, The Yuin Nation, on Walbanga Country, freely acknowledged and hopefully upholded. Braidwood is actually authentic. Not what passes as “authentic” nowadays.
The people there are authentic. A bunch of artistic, elegant, sweet weirdos and that is the highest accolade.
Quaint in that modern-rural, with more than just a touch of Rockabilly way, Braidwood looks straight out of a movie set, which it has been quite literally.
Classic Australian movies like the 70s version of ‘Ned Kelly’ starring Mick Jagger (yes, the lead strolling bones); ‘The Year My Voice Broke [1987] and ‘Flirting’ [1991] starring Thandiwe Newton and Nicole Kidman.
I made Braidwood my movie set for the day in January 2018, after a few days in the capital [which I am fond of, truly]. Far too fleeting a scene visit.
Obviously I highly recommend Braidwood. Great viewing.
January 2018 may feel like another time… line, but good things and gorgeous people stroll the streets and hills and hearts still, like SALOON DESIGN HOUSE’s Dena Pharaoh-Pezzano.
The people of Braidwood are doing their part to slow the world down by slowing themselves down. Living in the present as much as possible.
This is a privilege as much as it is a necessity.
This is a privilege as much as it is a necessity.
Destination NSW shares their standard bland template AIview of BRAIDWOOD here, I jest, it’s great, with awesome suggestions.
I don’t have suggestions but I do have memories. And photos.
Stay tuned for a possible sequel, until then, Braidwood visited me in Sydney, here. (26/10)
